LLANGOLLEN EISTEDDFOD

Gan ddibynnu ar ei gred y dylai cerddoriaeth fod yn brydferth ac yn gyfathrebol, mae TREFOR OWEN, y gitarydd, wedi cael ei hysbrydoli ers amser maith gan synau agos y Pumawd George Shearing chwedlonol, gan drefnu'r deunydd ar gyfer dwy gitâr i lwyddiant mawr yn ei fand Shades Of Shearing, tra Arweiniodd ei gariad at Bossa Brasil Nova iddo gofnodi ei albwm enwog, Wales Plays Brazil, a oedd yn cynnwys y

sacsoffonydd enwog Dave O'Higgins a'r arbenigwr taro Lladin, Dave Hassell.

Gyda 'Classic Jazz Of The Americas' mae Trefor wedi dewis rhai o'i hoff ddeunydd o'r ddwy wisg, gan gadw'r ddwy linell flaen gitâr a chwarae rhai safonau a ddewiswyd yn dda gan gynnwys swing, baledi a chlasuron Brasil gan Antonio Carlos Jobim a Luiz

Bonfa, nid sôn am un neu ddau o'i gyfansoddiadau telynegol ei hun.

Mae prif gitarydd cyntaf Cymru, Trefor Owen, wedi teithio'r DU gyda goreuon gitâr fel Mundell Lowe UDA a Louis Stewart Iwerddon, ac wedi perfformio'n helaeth yn UDA, gan ymddangos yn San Francisco ac LA, yn Sioe Gitâr Classic America Efrog Newydd,

a y Caffi Jazz mawreddog yn Sefydliad enwog Smithsonian, Washington DC.

Am wyth mlynedd, rhwng 2000 a 2008, arweiniodd dîm o gitaryddion rhyngwladol yn perfformio ac yn tiwtora yng Ngŵyl a Gŵyl Gitâr Jazz Ryngwladol Gogledd Cymru, y digwyddiad gitâr jazz mwyaf yn y byd, ac ers hynny mae wedi bod yn diwtor preswyl

ym mhob un o'r penwythnosau gitâr jazz hynod enwog a gyflwynir bob amser gan Jazz

Gogledd Cymru.

Hefyd ar y gitâr, mae ANDY HULME wedi chwarae mewn deuawdau a lleoliadau band gyda Trefor ers dros ugain mlynedd, tra bod ED HARRISON (bas dwbl) a HUGH LAWRENCE (drymiau ac offerynnau taro Lladin) yn ddau o'r galw mwyaf cyfeillion yn y Gogledd Orllewin.

TREFOR OWEN QUARTET

Plays the Classic Jazz of the Americas

Living up to his belief that music should be both beautiful and communicative, guitarist

TREFOR OWEN has long been inspired by the close harmony sounds of the legendary George Shearing Quintet, arranging the material for two guitars to great success in his band Shades Of Shearing, while his love of Brazilian Bossa Nova led to him recording his celebrated album, Wales Plays Brazil which featured renowned saxophonist Dave O'Higgins and Latin percussion specialist, Dave Hassell.

With 'Classic Jazz Of The Americas' Trefor has selected some of his favourite material from both outfits, keeping the two guitar front line and playing some well-chosen standards including swing, ballads and Brazilian classics by Antonio Carlos Jobim and

Luiz Bonfa, not to mention one or two of his own lyrical compositions.

Wales's premiere guitarist, internationally renowned Trefor Owen has toured the UK with such guitar greats as the USA's Mundell Lowe and Ireland's Louis Stewart, and has performed extensively in the USA, appearing in San Francisco and LA, at New York's

Classic American Guitar Show, and the prestigious Jazz Cafe at the famous Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC.

For eight years, between 2000 and 2008, he led a team of international guitarists performing and tutoring at the North Wales International Jazz Guitar Festival and Summer School, the biggest jazz guitar event in the world, and has since been resident

tutor at each of the highly renowned bi-annual jazz guitar weekends presented by North Wales Jazz.

Also on guitar, ANDY HULME has played in duos and band settings with Trefor for over twenty years, while ED HARRISON (double bass) and HUGH LAWRENCE

(drums and Latin percussion) are two of the most in-demand accompanists in the North West.
