DEAN MASSER QUARTET

Salute to Dexter Gordon

Fel ei arwr ers blynyddoedd, Dexter Gordon, mae Dean Masser yn sacsoffonydd telynegol a bywiog a bydd yn perfformio rhai o glasuron Gordon fel Cheese Cake and Fried Bananas, a chaneuon jazz cyfarwydd. Daeth Dean i amlygrwydd gyntaf ym Mhrydain gyda phedwarawd anfarwol Jack Parnell ddechrau’r 1990au, pan fu’r band yn recordio

albwm byw mewn ymweliad wythnos o hyd â Chlwb Jazz Ronnie Scott, lle bu Dean yn chwarae lawer gwaith ers hynny.

Mae Dean yn chwarae’n aml gyda rhai o enwau mwyaf byd jazz Prydain – yn 2017 yn unig bu’n perfformio gyda Nigel Hitchcock, Mark Nightingale, Clark Tracy, Dave Newton, Martin Shaw a’r BBC Big Band, a bu’n recordio ac yn teithio gydag wythawd enwog Alan Barnes/Pat McCarthy.

Mae cynulleidfaoedd y gogledd yn gyfarwydd â Dean fel aelod o’r band hynod boblogaidd 'Jazz Worriers’ y mae ef a'r trwmpedwr, Neil Yates, yn gyd-flaenwyr arno. Mae’r ddau’n dal i gydweithio ar sawl prosiect yn cynnwys Hubbard's Covered, sy’n dathlu cerddoriaeth y trwmpedwr anfarwol,

Freddie Hubbard.

Ceir tri cerddor gwych arall yn ‘Salute to Dexter Gordon' hefyd – Richard Wetherall (allweddellau),

Ed Harrison (dwbl bas) a Caroline Boaden (drymiau).

Like Dexter Gordon, his long-time musical hero, Dean Masser is a hard-swinging, lyrical saxophonist, and for this North Wales Jazz concert he will be performing an array of classic Gordon numbers like Cheese Cake and Fried Bananas, plus well-known jazz standards.

Based in the North West, Dean first rose to prominence with the legendary Jack Parnell

Quartet in the early 1990s, when the the band recorded a live album during a week long stint at

Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, a venue that Dean has returned to many times since.

As someone who frequently plays with some of the biggest names on the British jazz scene, in 2017 alone Dean performed with Nigel Hitchcock, Mark Nightingale, Clark Tracey, Dave Newton, Martin Shaw and the BBC Big Band, and has recorded and toured with the acclaimed Alan Barnes/Pat McCarthy Octet.

Dean is well-known to North Wales audiences as a member of the hugely popular 'Jazz Worriers' which he co-leads with trumpeter, Neil Yates, with whom he continues to collaborate on a number of projects including Hubbard's Covered, celebrating the music of trumpet legend, Freddie Hubbard.

'Salute To Dexter Gordon' is completed by three more first-class musicians from the North West, with GEORGE KING (keyboards), ED HARRISON (double bass) and GAZ HUGHES (drums).
