Saxophonist STUART JOHNSON, who hails from the North East, began playing clarinet at the age of ten, switching to sax and flute in his mid-teens. While still a schoolboy, he performed with the world renowned Evan Parker at the legendary Little Theatre Club in St Martin’s Lane, then the hub of London’s avant-garde scene. In 1982 Stuart formed fusion band Chameleon, still going strong and featuring many leading players, touring both throughout the UK and in mainland Europe.
During a musical career that has now spanned four decades, his work has encompassed a wide range that has seen him performing in the USA and Canada and with great jazz musicians including Tommy Smith, Andy Sheppard, John Surman and Barbara Thompson, plus well-known artists and bands such as Sting, The Drifters, Robson and Jerome, Max Bygraves and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
A soprano saxophone specialist, Stuart says that even after all these years he is still finding out new things about the instrument!
For his North Wales concert, Stuart Johnson will be joined by two of the UK’s finest jazz guitarists, TREFOR OWEN and ANDY HULME, and double bass.
