New Orleans, caneuon o’r ‘great American songbook’ a jazz prif lif, wedi’u hysbrydoli gan grwpiau bach clasurol a pherfformwyr swing o ddiwedd yr 1930au a dechrau’r 1940au.

Mae’r trwmpedwr JAMIE BROWNFIELD, enillydd y wobr Rising Star yng Ngwobrau Jazz Prydain

2012, yn adnabyddus am ehangder ei arddull chwarae, sy’n cynnwys holl elfennau’r trwmped jazz.

Ymhlith y rhai y mae eu dylanwad arno mae Clifford Brown, Chet Baker a Wynton Marsalis.Yn

ddiweddar, bu Jamie yn New Orleans ar ôl ennill cystadleuaeth fawr gan British Airways i berfformio

ar daith arbennig i’r ddinas ar gyfer y Mardi Gras enwog. Yno, cafodd gyfle i chwarae gydag un o’i

Ar y sacs tenor mae LIAM BYRNE o Ysgol Gerdd y Guildhall yn Llundain, sydd hefyd yn trefnu

cerddoriaeth y band. Mae’n dod yn boblogaidd iawn mewn clybiau jazz ledled Prydain ac yn chwaraewr gwadd gyda llu o fandiau yn cynnwys yr Andy Prior Big Band. Yn ddiweddar, bu canmoliaeth mawr i’w berfformiad gyda’r sacsoffonydd tenor Americanaidd, Harry Allen mewn band gyda’r Prydeinwyr Dave Newton a Dave Green ar y piano a’r dwbl bas, gan ychwanegu at yr enw da sydd ganddo am gynnal fflam y traddodiad sacs jazz a bebop.

TŶ PAWB

Wrexham’s popular new arts centre, opened in April 2018, boasts a performance space seating 100, plus pre-concert and interval bar. There’s adjacent covered car parking (£1.80) plus free parking in Holt Street and Chester Street.

Performing the kind of jazz that has an infectious swing but doesn't give you a headache, the Hot Six,

co-led by Liam Byrne (tenor sax) and Jamie Brownfield (trumpet) plays classic jazz from

New Orleans through the great American song book to mainstream, inspired by the classic small

groups and swing era stylists of the late 1930s and early 1940s.

Trumpeter JAMIE BROWNFIELD, winner of the Rising Star category at the 2012 British Jazz Awards

whose influences include Clifford Brown, Chet Baker and Wynton Marsalis, has a prodigiously broad

playing style running the gamut of jazz trumpet. More recently, Jamie has just returned from New

Orleans after winning a prestigious British Airways competition to perform during a VIP flight to the

city for the famous Mardi Gras, where he got the chance to play with one of his modern trumpet heroes, Leroy Jones.

On tenor sax, LIAM BYRNE is a postgraduate of London’s Guildhall School of Music and also the band's arranger. A growing favourite with jazz clubs around the country he can often be heard guesting with numerous bands including the Andy Prior Big Band, and has recently performed to great acclaim with US tenor saxophonist Harry Allen in a band with the UK's Dave Newton and Dave Green on piano and double bass, adding to his growing reputation as a torchbearer of the jazz saxophone

and bebop tradition.

On keyboards TOM KINCAID has become the first choice of many touring artists and band leaders,

and has performed with jazz saxophonists Art Themen and Scott Hamilton, as well as his childhood

hero, rock 'n' roll legend Shakin' Stevens.

The Brownfield Byrne Hot Six, which is completed by ANDY HULME (guitar), JIM SWINNERTON (double bass) and JACK COTTERILL (drums), has managed to forge an original sound whilst staying firmly rooted in the jazz tradition, and continues to prove popular at jazz clubs and festivals across the country.
