THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

The Weave is an exciting, melodic and entertaining sextet conceived by trumpeter MARTIN SMITH and comprised of some of Liverpool's best established musicians. Featuring artful front-line interplay between Martin, TONY PEERS (also on trumpet) and
TONY ORMESHER (guitar), the band draws on a vast and diverse well of experience but has its roots firmly in bop. Officially formed in August 2012 when they recorded their eponymous debut album, the members of The Weave have a very close musical bond, having been playing together in various incarnations for up to 20 years.

On trumpet, the band's leader, Martin Smith is a musician who values his contribution to original music above all else—an outlook which has seen him pursue a rich and eclectic career, including studying in New York with renowned trumpeters and ex-Frank Sinatra band members Bobby Shew and Marvin Stamm. His first album with his quartet, Cushfoot, was championed on national radio by Michael Parkinson and Humphrey Littleton, and he has recorded with well-known bands such as
Super Furry Animals, The Lightening Seeds, and appeared on Jools Holland with The Coral.
Along with Martin, The Weave's distinctive front-line is completed by
Tony Peers and Tony Ormesher. The former is a popular Trumpet player on the Liverpool scene who has played extensively in Europe with artists such as Mari Wilson, Albert Lee and John Martyn, and the latter is an award-winning virtuoso jazz guitarist who has made a name for himself playing with the cream of British jazz, as well as with the renowned Magic Hat Ensemble.
Since their formation the band has enjoyed success at numerous festivals and clubs throughout the country and last year they won tour support when they were selected as Northernline Ambassadors by Jazz North. Recent highlights for The Weave have been a performance at London's renowned Spice of Life venue and their debut CD being featured on Jazz FM's 'Dinner Jazz' with Helen Mayhew, and later this year they will feature prominently at the 2014 Liverpool Jazz Festival. So why not come to Llay on Tuesday 18 February and hear this group of fantastic musicians, who also include ROB STRINGER (keyboards), HUGO HARRISON (double bass) and TILO PIRNBAUM (drums).
